4 out of 5 stars Overall good   April 14, 2010

Overall this is a good game. I wish it had more video clips of characters with the story line. it seemed a little choppy between the eras. but excellent premis. but i really liked it. it used a good amount of stratigy and you needed to use your brain to finish some levels not just blow up everything in sight.

4 out of 5 stars Better than expected ...   February 22, 2010

As others have stated, this is probably the third best ST game (after probably Star Trek Online, and Bridge Commander).

I like the game better than I thought I would and thought the graphics and gameplay were better than most online reviews.

What doesn't work with it:

The controls are really non-configurable (you could edit a text file for some of them), and the in-game and pamphlet definitions don't always agree. Many people say the game development was rushed, and that seems to be the case.

Spoiler alert - The missions sometimes don't give enough detail - for example - scan for the source of the energy distubance. So you will fly around until your ship is destroyed without knowing what to do. Someone named Frontfox posted videos of all the missions on YouTube, and those are helpful, but then they are too easy.

It is more of a strategy game than a Simulation, and I was looking more for a game where you could command a single ship and wander the ship and beam down to planets, etc. You can't do that in BC either, though. STO might get close.

There are several mods (Ultimate Universe, Aftermath, Trek Battles) for the game that I plan to try out, but haven't yet.

4 out of 5 stars MODS Have Saved Legacy-by Miri's Hot   December 2, 2009

Indeed the stock game was a giant floating turd, but after 3 years of modders working their butts off the game RIGHT NOW is what it should have been when everyone first bought it. Do a search for Star Trek Legacy Mods because I can say "You won't be sorry"

1 out of 5 stars They don't even tell you how to pilot these ships   November 7, 2009
Andariel Halo (Phenomynouss@hotmail etc is my e-mail)
What excitement had I to be able to pilot the ships of Star Trek, and to pick between the Enterprise X-1, the Enterprise NCC-1701, the Enterprise NCC-1701A, the Enterprise NCC-1701D, the Reliant, the Constitution, etcetera.

And indeed I was having fun, with the familiar sounds of people telling me things on board, and piloting the ship in to lock phasers on a target and attack.

But that's about where the fun ends.

The way this game is built feels and looks like something ten years older than it should be, even if the graphics are somewhat top-notch and nifty for 2006. The menu is too simple to a degree that you cannot adjust many graphics options or controls. Even worse, you can't even SEE your controls. And trial and error never seems to work in-game, unless you play through the DREADFUL tutorial which is overly SLOW and POINTLESS, just to teach you the most basic functions one at a time, four or five things over a ten minute period, just to learn to accelerate or decelerate without the mouse.

I got so bored with the tutorial, I gave up after exploring the first planet. Then I skirmished.

I had absolutely no idea what was happening or why.

As the Federation, I could pick four ships maximum in my skirmish fleet, but I could only command one at a time. No idea if I can have the other ships slaved to mine, or if they have independent AI. I'm pretty sure they can't fight on their own, because every time I played, my other ships did absolutely nothing until I scrolled to them and manually moved them about.

I don't even know exactly what to press to attack! I'm pretty sure it's just to left-click, but I've had so many instances where I am literally meters away from an enemy ship, smashing the left-click mouse button feverishly, and seeing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING happen, only to suddenly have my phasers open up on a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TARGET.

The mere idea of playing with Star Trek ships was a worthy idea worth making a game out of. But they just seemingly intentionally sabotaged it with nonexistent control help and stilted, clumsy movement, completely arbitrary actions, and a limit to only four sides: Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Borg.

2 out of 5 stars Star Trek: Legacy could have been the best Trek game ever....   October 7, 2009
Jesse Huongvilay (Garland, Texas USA)
...but instead, it became a disappointment.

To start off, Legacy was clearly a disappointment even to Trek fans like me. The system requirements are all wrong, and many users have reported that even though it was listed (in the minimum system requirements) to have Windows XP, their game still would not run. I have to say that the sysem requirements are incorrect and even though it worked fine on my Vista computer, the game still lagged and the targeting system is all buggy. One minute you target the enemy and are ready to shoot, the next your ship loses targeting interest. The controls are a disappointment too (unless of course, you have the XBOX360 controller hooked up to your PC), and are a nightmare to learn. As you start off the first campaign mission, you will be forced to learn each and every control as you fight a battle. The in-game tips were written for the X360 controller, and I believe that may refer to you needing to use the X360 controller for PC, which most reviews clearly forgot to count on. So, if you have already bought this game, and it worked on your PC, then I suggest using the X360 controller insetad of the keyboard.

Overall, if you are looking for a decent Star Trek Game, then I suggest looking towards Armada and Armada II, Starfleet Command series, and Bridge Commander instead (to name a few), as those games are actually quite good. Do not ever spend your hard-earned money on this.
