Voyager

Premiered on January 16, 1995 and was the fourth incarnation within the Star Trek franchise. The story revolves around the crew of the USS Voyager, stranded in the far reaches of the Delta Quadrant, and their quest to reach home, which would take an estimated 75 years at maximum speeds.

The USS Voyager is commanded by the valiant Captain Kathryn Janeway, willing to do whatever it takes to protect her ship and crew, and see to their safe return to Earth.

Because of its plot, Star Trek: Voyager sees the birth of many alien races such as the Malon, Hirogen, Talaxians, Ocampan, and Kazon. We also deeply explore the terrifying Borg following the introduction of the character of Seven of Nine in the Season Four premier, "Scorpion, Part II".

Voyager's first assignment was to seek out a renegade Maquis ship, last reported to be in the Badlands region near the Cardassian border. Onboard is Voyager's chief of security, Lieutenant Tuvok, who's was sent to infiltrate the Maquis.

THE MAQUIS

First introduced in Deep Space Nine, and also explored in The Next Generation, the Maquis are a group of renegades that have been forced to use violence to fend off the Cardassians. A demilitarized zone was established following a treaty with the Federation, an area in which many Federation and Cardassian colonies were located. In addition, terms of the treaty relocated the Cardassian-Federation border. Federation colonies were now located in Cardassian space, and vice-versa. The Maquis Resistance was organized upon feeling abandoned by the Federation, in an effort to protect them colonies from the Cardassians. Many Starfleet officers were sympathetic of the Maquis, risking everything to join them. In addition to the starship Voyager, the crew of Maquis raider were stranded in the Delta Quadrant. The two crews were forced to overcome their differences, and work together to find a way home.

THE DELTA QUADRANT

The starship Voyager, and a Maquis raider, were pulled into the Delta Quadrant by an alien known to them as the Caretaker ("Caretaker") - an uncharted region, more than 75 years from home. The only Federation starship in the Delta Quadrant, the Voyager is forced to find a way to survive alone, in a violent and unstable region of space. Because of their location in an unknown region of space, the starship Voyager makes more first contacts with alien races than any other crew since the first USS Enterprise, under the command of James Kirk.

THE BORG

The Borg were first introduced in the TNG episode, "Q-Who?", and had numerous appearances in the TNG series. However, no series tackled the Borg more than Voyager. Since the Borg originated in the Delta Quadrant, it was inventible that Voyager would encounter them. Voyager's first engagement occurred in the Season Three finale, "Scorpion, Part I". The character of Seven of Nine was introduced in "Scorpion, Part II" and became one of the most controversial and complex characters in Star Trek history.

THE DELTA FLYER

It became clear to the Voyager crew in the series' fifth season that a new, larger and stronger shuttlecraft was necessary to survive in the Delta Quadrant. The Delta Flyer was first conceived by Tom Paris, and was constructed in "Extreme Risk".
